Smithycroft Secondary School

in 2018, we set-up a bike container hub at SmithyCroft School. The aim was to base ourselves within the school so that we could offer activities and services in a more integrated and developed way. We could become a focal point for students to develop their interest in cycling.

We run many regular bike activities at Smithycroft Secondary School:

Bikeability training: This has helped to increase the use of bikes to get top and from school as we identified many pupils didn’t feel sufficient confidence to without further training.

Lunchtime Bike Fixing: We have been offering bike fixing led by trained mechanics to help students fix their own bikes alongside our “Earn-A-Bike” scheme where we take donated bikes and teach students to fix it up themselves to then keep.

Tuesday Bike Club: We take students out on regular rides. This involves playing bike games, exploring new areas in their local environment and helping to pan routes to and from school while developing more confidence cycling on the road.
